Adonai's Dragons

This painting is based on a lot of research I did when I was younger. Profoundly controversial, as the Biblical narrative opposes the theory of evolution. In the Hebrew Scriptures - a particular word is mistranslated over and over again. This word being “dragon.”

This word is “Tannin” in Hebrew, and it is referred to as a real animal. Sadly, it has been mistranslated over the centuries as “great whales,” “sea monster,” “monster”, “jackals,” “serpent,” etc. Because the translators simply assumed “dragons” are mythological.

Over the six thousand years of human civilization, recounts of “dragons” - large reptiles, can be found in nearly every ancient culture around the world. The amount of evidence found in ancient art, artifacts, and writing is too much to dump on here.

Suffice, I will only stick to the Bible’s references:

🟢 “So God created great dragons and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” - Genesis 1:21

🟢 “Their wine is the poison of dragons, And the cruel venom of cobras.” - Deutoronomy 32:33

🟢 “Am I a sea, or a dragon, That You set a guard over me?” - Job 7:12

🟢 “Praise the Lord from the earth, You dragons and all the depths...” - Psalm 148:7

🟢 “Behold, I am against you,
O Pharaoh king of Egypt,
O great dragon who lies in the midst of his rivers,
Who has said, ‘My River is my own;
I have made it for myself.’
But I will put hooks in your jaws,
And cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales...”
- Ezekiel 29:3-4

🟢 “Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon
Has devoured me, he has crushed me;  He has made me an empty vessel,
He has swallowed me up like a dragon;
He has filled his stomach with my delicacies,
He has spit me out.”
- Jeremiah 51:34

A description of a flying reptile:
🟢 “The burden against the beasts of the South.
Through a land of trouble and anguish,
From which came the lioness and lion,
The viper and fiery flying serpent...”
- Isaiah 30:6

A long description of “Behemoth” - A massive land animal. Described as being “The first of the ways of God”, who “moves his tail like a cedar” tree. And “Only He who made him can bring near His sword.” - meaning, only God can bring death near to him. Not disturbed, even if an entire river flows against him.
Entire chapter dedicated to him: 🟢 Job 40

A long description of “Leviathan” - A massive ocean animal. Definitely not a whale. He is described as having “rows of scales” that are “shut up tightly” one against the other. Having jaws like doors, with “terrible teeth all around.” “Sorrow dances before him.” Treating human weapons, swords, arrows, spears like “rotten wood.” Able to stir the ocean, and leave a wake behind him. Having eyes colored like the “eyelids of the morning.” “On earth there is nothing like him, which is made without fear.” “King over all the children of pride.”
Entire chapter dedicated to him: 🟢 Job 41
